Mixed reactions over transfer of District Commissioners

Some District Commissioners have accepted a decision by government to transfer them from their posts to the Central government.

A few days ago, days, the Supreme Court of Appeal suspended the decision by government to transfer the DCs pending further determinations on the matter.

But in letters addressed to the Chief Executive Officer of Malawi Local Government Association, four DCs namely Ali Phiri of Chikwawa, Bennet Nkasala of Blantyre, Raphael Piringu of Zomba and Paul Kalilombe of Karonga accepted to be moved from their posts.

“Following my posting to serve at Mental Hospital, I write to request that l be allowed to go and report at the Mental Hospital in Zomba under Ministry of Health. I would like you to remove me from the list of DCs that are on the matter currently in court contesting redeployment. I see no problem with government decision to assign me the new duties in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works,” Phiri wrote.

Nkasala was transferred to the Ministry of Mining to take up a position of Director of Administration while Kalilombe to the Ministry of Labour to take up a similar position.
