As Africa commemorates Africa Day under the theme “63 Years of Unity, Integration and Development,” questions have emerged over whether the continent is achieving unity and development in practice.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Lucky Mbewe, a social commentator has said although Africa appears united through regional bodies, conflicts and instability in countries such as South Africa and Democratic Republic of the Congo show that real unity remains a challenge.
He has called on African leaders to strengthen cooperation, promote peace, and deepen economic collaboration.
Meanwhile, Matthews Malata, an environmental activist has called on African countries to pressure major global polluters, who he says drive climate change impacts in Africa, to provide financial support under international climate agreements to assist least developed African countries.
