UTM’s presidential running mate, Dr. Matthews Mtumbuka, has criticized the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) for neglecting the legacy of Orton Chirwa, the country’s first Attorney General and MCP founder.
Mtumbuka expressed disappointment that the MCP has failed to deliver on promised projects, including the Orton Chirwa Mausoleum and the proposed Orton Chirwa International Airport in Mzuzu.
President Lazarus Chakwera attributed the stalled developments to cash flow problems, acknowledging the government’s failure to meet its commitments.
Stakeholders in the Northern Region, including church leaders, have also voiced concerns over the area’s neglect, citing unfinished projects like the Rumphi-Nyika Road and Inkosi M’Mbelwa University.
Mtumbuka urged voters in Nkhatabay to support UTM president Dr. Dalitso Kabambe in the upcoming general elections, promising that a UTM government would restore Orton Chirwa’s legacy and bring tangible development to the region.
There has not been an immediate comment from MCP.
