Mutharika criticised over interim government calls

Activist  Undule Mwakasungula has described Peter Mutharika’s calls for a caretaker government as a recipe for chaos in the country.

Mwakasungula was commenting on Mutharika’s address yesterday that called on the Lazarus Chakwera’s led administration to resign for failing to govern the country.

“Important to remind each other that as a nation we agreed democratic benchmarks of governance one being conducting free, fair and acceptable elections. Therefore, calling for elections outside these benchmarks is calling for national chaos and that must not be allowed no matter who is advocating,” said Mwakasungula.

Mwakasungula has told MIJ Online that in as much as everyone in this country can agree that there is a lot of social- economic challenges going on but no one should try to take advantage of the situation by advancing personal political agendas.

“The opposition must also be reminded the role they must play in helping government for national development. It must not always be politics as usual; we must leave politics at some point and focus on jointly working together regardless of our political affiliation and differences,” he said.

The activist also added that the remarks do not demonstrate a state’s man who must accept that he had his time as President and now its time for others.

“As a state’s man, the former President must show maturity and help the current government to address the socio – economic challenges rather than looking for occupying the presidency once again,” argued Mwakasungula.

Mutharika has accused Chakwera of failing to address socio-economic woes that the nation is facing including a rise in the cost of living.
