MW launches Grand Challenges Program
August, 30th is a big day as the country launch the Grand Challenges Malawi Program aimed at supporting the most creative scientists in the country.
Besides; the program also hopes to create platform for scientists to collaborate with their partners in Africa and globally in implementing research that fosters innovation in solving critical development challenges in Malawi and on the African continent.
A media statement released by the National Council of Science and Technology states, the launch is set for Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
Among others; the program aims to strengthen the national innovation landscape and also build capacities of local researchers in striving to unlock challenges in the health and humanitarian sectors.
The initiative has come at a time the world is struggling to cope with implications of climate change and energy generation and supply concerns; thus aspiring to make the agriculture sector more productive and commercially viable.
Ahead of the launch, Gift Kadzamira, acting director for the council is quoted as describing the program as “a game-changer for Malawi in the countrys quest to grow its socio-economic development”
