Newly appointed football technical director in Malawi, Marian Mario Marinica says he is setting huge sights on the Africa Cup of nations where the Romanian says the Flames must perform better.
Marinica made the stance after he signed a three-year contract with the Football Association of Malawi, marking an era that replaces John Kaputa.
The 56-year-old who has had similar stints with clubs like Simba of Tanzania said there is need for the Malawi football teams to have an improved technical ability.
“It is normal for expectations to be high because I am an expatriate taking over a position that has been occupied by locals for many years. But huge expectations could lead to disappointment as people expect their team to win all the time sometimes without even having a great foundation. I will try to put in my knowledge and expertise to help everyone so that we leave that legacy we have been talking about,” he said.
“The focus must not just be on administration or making money. The focus must be on technical issues because that is our core duty. We have other functions, yes, to make money but number one is technical development of the game,” Nyamilandu said.
Marinica’s last job was TD with Indian side, Kerala Blasters FC Youth Academy.
He is a holder of Uefa Pro Licence and boasts over 27 years of coaching experience.
