Parliament approves MERA Board

The Public Appointments committee of Parliament has approved members of the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority that were appointed recently.

Chairperson Joyce Chitsulo, PAC Chairperson has confirmed the development to MIJ Online saying this is after the Committee met and interviewed the two candidates who were appointed following the rejection of some members by the committee.

Chitsulo says the committee conducted confirmation hearing for Phyllis Manguluti and McCider Katulukira, new names that were sent to the committee after the rejection of Inocencia Chirombo and Rhodric Chingota who were appointed as Vice Chair and Member respectively.

According to Chitsulo, both have been confirmed.

Chitsulo adds that the committee has also confirmed the appointment of Reckford Kampanje after he has resigned from NOCMA.

“The Committee has accepted and thus confirmed him as Chair for MERA BOARD” said Chitsulo.

On Sunday, the Committee rejected Chirombo because she had already served in the previous Board which was faulted in the appointment of Mera chief executive officer Henry Kachaje.

The committee had also rejected Rhodrick Chingota for being overaged (76 years old).
