Parliament has passed the 2024/2025 national budget pegged at K5.9 trillion kwacha.
Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Simplex Chithyola Banda, initially presented the last month before it underwent scrutiny in the Committee of Supply, resulting in the approval of 59 votes.

In an interview with MIJ Online, Banda highlighted that the budget allocations prioritize key sectors such as agriculture, mining, and labor exports, aiming to benefit the general public.
He expressed optimism regarding the budget’s realism, citing expectations that revenue bodies like MRA would meet their targets, thus assisting the government in addressing funding gaps and Forex shortages.
Regarding implementation of the budget, Mary Navicha, Leader of Democratic Progressive Party in parliament, emphasized the importance of the government executing the approved estimates to tackle the significant challenges faced by the Malawians.
