Preparations are underway for the official launch of the newly registered People’s Development Party.
The interim leader, Kondwani Nankhumwa, who previously served as the leader of the opposition in parliament, will lead the party’s supporters at the launch event scheduled to take place on June 9, 2024, at Masintha Ground in Lilongwe.
In an interview with MIJ Online, Rhodes Msonkho, the interim Publicity Secretary for the party, said that the official launch will signify the party’s commitment to an issue-based approach.
Msonkho added that the event will provide an opportunity for Malawians to learn about and appreciate the three core pillars that the party stands for.
Nankhumwa, the Member of Parliament for Mulanje Central, was expelled from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) for indiscipline, alongside 10 others, including Mark Botomani, Grezelder Jeffrey, Cecelia Chazama, Nicholas Dausi, Joe Thomas Nyirongo and Ken Msonda.
The group was booted out for calling, leading, and attending the December 6, 2023, nullified national governing council (NGC) meeting in Lilongwe, which they argued flouted the party’s constitution.
