Exhibitors are gearing up for the upcoming 20th National Agriculture Fair in Blantyre to showcase their agricultural products and services.
The fair, themed “Driving towards export-oriented agriculture through commercialization and innovation,” is expected to take place from August 29th to 31st, 2024, at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds.
According to our snap check at the venue, various exhibitors involved in crop and livestock farming, manufacturing, and agriculture-based service provision, among others, were seen setting up pavilions to showcase their agricultural products and services.
Among the organizations participating in this year’s fair are the Ministry of Agriculture, Agricultural Commercialization (AGCOM) Project, Malawi Watershed Services Improvement (MWASIP) project, and Agricultural Commodity Exchange for Africa (ACE Africa).
Information Technology Officer for ACE Africa, Lucious Ndalama, told MIJ Online that his organization has developed a mobile application, Zaulimi App, aimed at assisting farmers and extension officers with essential production and marketing information for selected crops, livestock, and agroforestry.
Meanwhile, the organizer of the agriculture fair, Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI), said the event is expected to provide a platform for local and international exhibitors in manufacturing, financial services, technology, and agriculture to connect and explore new business opportunities.
The idea of the national agriculture fair, according to the authorities, is to promote growth and development in the agricultural value chain.
MCCCI earlier told us that over 130 pavilions are expected to be occupied by exhibitors, a jump from 116 pavilions occupied during the 19th National Agriculture Fair.
