Prospects of normal rains doubtful as dry spell continues

The Department of Meteorological Services and Climate Change has said the country might receive below normal rainfall if the dry spells prolong.

No rains at all!

In September, the department predicted that the country will receive normal rains in the 2020-2021 rainfall season.

The department also said from October to December 2020, most of the areas in the Southern and Central regions were expected to receive normal to above normal rainfall amounts while most of the Northern areas were expected to receive below normal rainfall amounts.

However, most of the areas in the country have been receiving below normal rainfall since October this year.

Speaking to MIJ Online, Jolam Nkhokwe, Director of the Department of Meteorological Services and Climate Change said if the current weather condition persists the country will receive below normal rainfall.

But Nkhokwe said if the country starts to receive a lot of rains in January to March the country will receive normal rainfall.
