Questionable: Flames players bemoan Marinica tactics

Some Malawi national football team players have expressed disappointment with Coach Mario Marinica’s football philosophy saying it is not yielding as expected from the expatriate.

This is being said after the sideโ€™s disappointing outing at the Hollywoodbets Cosafa cup.

Malawi lostย 2-1 in the opener against Lesotho before being forced to a painful 1 all draw against eSwatini and an eventual 2 nil triumph over Mauritius to finish third in Group B.

Players who spoke to us on condition of anonymity described the new philosophy as bad because players are not allowed to play a โ€˜passing gameโ€™.

Has his style of play questioned.

“We want to play passing football but the ideas now are different. ย We are ball players and not happy about this situation,โ€™โ€™ he said.

However, some media reports quote the Romanian as having defended his tactics tagging them as effective when well deployed.

The FA has also reportedly thrown weight behind the coach.

The Flames will now focus on the 2022 Chan qualifiers where the side will now get to the second round without kicking a ball following Zimbabweโ€™s failure to get their FIFA suspension lifted.

Malawi was drawn against Zimbabwe in the first round of the qualifiers.

Nevertheless, CAF Indicated that the fixture will go ahead only if Zimbabweโ€™s FIFA suspension is lifted two weeks before the first match which was scheduled for July 23, 2022.

The Flames will face the winner between Zambia and Mozambique in the second round of the qualifiers.
