Stakeholders in push for improving working conditions for civil servants

It has been revealed that poor working environment is deterring civil servants from accepting postings in rural areas, a situation that is affecting service delivery.

This was disclosed by Angella Mponda Headteacher at Namaka Community Day Secondary School which has over 190 students, during a media tour, National Local Government Finance Committee organized in Chiradzulu district.

The tour was aimed at appreciating developmental activities under the 100 Million US Dollar project- Governance to Enable Service Delivery, funded by the World Bank being facilitated by the Committee.

Mponda told MIJ Online that before authorities had constructed a new administration block at the school, some teachers who were transferred to the institution were having second thoughts after noticing the poor infrastructures.

However, Mponda has expressed excitement over the construction of the new administration block saying it has not only improved the working environment for over 15 teachers but it has also given the learning institution a new face.

But, Mponda pleaded with authorities to consider constructing more houses for teachers saying some teachers walk long distances to reach the school.
