One of the country’s renowned political analysts has expressed disappointment over the decision by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to snub the presidential debate.
This comes as DPP’s Peter Mutharika and MCP’s Lazarus Chakwera have chosen not to attend the debate citing a lack of transparency and accountability.
Speaking to MIJ Online Victor Chipofya one of the country’s political experts said that this is a missed opportunity for MCP and DPP to be accountable to the people in the country.
Chipofya believes that leaders who have tasted power often become less willing to be held accountable.
Meanwhile Chipofya has praised UTM’s Dalitso Kabambe for participating in the debate saying it’s essential for leaders to be accountable to the people.
