Authorities want Malawi’s rising population controlled

Malawi’s population is expected to shoot to 42.5 million by 2050, a thing authority say is cause for worry.

Currently, Malawi’s population is at 19 million, but health authorities have feared it may rise to unprecedented levels should the country continue to register more teenage pregnancies.

With this, Dorothy Ngoma, presidential advisor on safe motherhood has called upon stakeholders to promote use of contraceptives and family planning methods to control rapid population growth the country is facing.

According to Ngoma, overpopulation is a threat to national development as it also leads to scramble of resources among citizens.

Meanwhile, Henry Phiri deputy director for reproductive health in the ministry of health has expressed need for sensitization on family planning methods.
