A 68-year old man in Mponela, Dowa District has died after taking local beer on an empty stomach.
The deceased has been identified as Robert Phiri, who hails from Kamphata village in the area of Traditional Authority Chakhaza in Dowa.
According to Sergeant Macpatson Msadala Public Relations Officer for Mponela Police Station the incident occurred on Friday at Kamphata village.
“It is said that Phiri was a well-known drunkard and that on November 24,2022 at around 15:00 hours was seen drinking beer at Chigoma village. On November 25, 2022 at around 05:00 hours he was found lying dead in a comma position near his house” said Msadala.
A Clinician from Mponela Rural Hospital has said death was due to hypoglycemia secondary to taking alcohol with an empty stomach.
