Bill proposes strict review of political parties manifestos

The Legal Affairs Committee has proposed the empowerment of National Planning Commission to certify registration of political parties and their manifestoes.

The proposal has come in the wake of engagement between the commission and ministry of justice aimed at getting interpretation of some clauses in the Political Parties Act of 2018 Amendment Bill.

Among others, the bill proposes to empower the Registrar of Political Parties not to register a political party unless its manifesto is aligned to the national development agenda.

Speaking to MIJ FM, Mtamandeni Liabunya, legal counsel for the commission said, if adopted the commission will ensure it serves the country with diligence.
