Court to rule on protest against mandatory vaccination tomorrow

The High Court in Lilongwe will tomorrow deliver its ruling on an injunction application by some concern citizens to stop government from implementing the mandatory Covid-19 vaccination.

Weeks ago, the ministry of health announced its intentions to implement a mandatory Covid-19 vaccination drive for front line workers and other working groups.

Namiwa is challenging government’s intentions.

The plans have not gone down well with some human rights fighters in the country, including the Malawi Human Rights Commission and Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative- CDEDI.

As it is, Sylvester Namiwa Executive Director for- CDEDI, and a freelance journalist Mundango Nyirenda are seeking an injunction and a judicial review on the matter to stop government from making the vaccines mandatory among some groups.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda has described arguments by the concern citizens as baseless.

In a notice that MIJ Online has seen, Justice Kenyatta Nyirenda is on Thursday- 13th January, expected to deliver his ruling on the case.
