HRDC criticizes sixty-day amnesty on corruption offenders

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition has downplayed a defense by Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda that a sixty-day amnesty that his office has issued on financial crimes will end corruption.

The doubt by the grouping comes amid unending debate on the amnesty that was issued some days ago.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lilongwe today, leaders of the grouping said government has not clearly stated how this process will be done.

According to Michael Kaiyatsa, one of HRDC members, government should instead move towards the establishment of an effective special financial crimes court which the grouping says will help deal with corruption.

Kaiyatsa has since challenged the Tonse leadership to desist from deploying selective justice.
