The department of forestry has disclosed that eleven people have received licenses to start producing charcoal in the country since government enacted an amended forestry Act in 2019.
The Act among others seeks to bring sanity in charcoal production in regards to conserving the environment.
Speaking to MIJ Online Ted Kamoto, Deputy director of forestry says the department is only giving the licenses to people who own woodlands.
Kamoto has also disclosed that the department has forfeited over 25 vehicles which were ferrying illegal charcoal to different markets since the start of the exercise.
