‘Family planning methods critical in taming population growth’

The Ministry of Health has said there is need to promote family planning in the country to reduce population growth in Malawi.

The remarks come as statistics from the ministry of health have shown that 849 babies were delivered on Christmas day this year in 16 districts.

Among others the data shows that 102 babies were delivered in Mangochi, 77 in Mulanje and 76 in Machinga, Dowa and Lilongwe 66 each.

Over 840 babies born in Malawi over Christmas

Speaking to MIJ Online, Adrian Chikumbe, Spokesperson for the ministry of health –said the figure could have be very high if all the districts were included.

However, Chikumbe, said the figures show that the fertility rate is still very high in some districts including Mangochi, Machinga and Mulanje and there is need to promote family planning services in such districts.
