Egypt has revealed plans to support Malawi’s fight against climate shocks, with a focus on food security, drought-resilient farming and large-scale agricultural investment.
This comes as Egypt has donated relief items such as Milk, Beans, Macaroni and Sugar to Malawi.
The donation has been done in response to 2025 Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) Report which indicated that over 4 million people were projected to be at risk of hunger during the 2025/26 consumption year.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Rasha Hamdy, Ambassador of the Egypt to Malawi, said that their support goes beyond emergency food aid.
According to Hamdy they are willing to help Malawi secure food security not just through donations, but by equipping farmers to handle future shocks.
Hamdy has since confirmed that they are interested in bringing Egyptian business people and investors to Malawi to cultivate land and grow the food processing sector.
And on her part, Minister of Agriculture Roza Mbilizi said that the relationship with Egypt extends beyond donations, citing past support in expertise for the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development.
Mbilizi said Malawi is planning a business tour to Egypt, while Egyptian businessmen and women have shown interest in growing sugarcane in Malawi.
