Government has defended the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) saying it is not weak.
The main purpose of implementing IFMIS is to improve financial management in Government.
Specifically, the objectives of implementing IFMIS are to Control over expenditure in Government, produce timely financial reports and enhance transparency and accountability in government.
But, government has spoken highly of the system despite a series of criticisms.
The remarks follow the arrest of some officers at the Accountant General’s AG department who are accused of stealing close to K283 million.
Some of the accused include Angelina Mbale, Angela Chiphiko, Hastings Genela and Anderson Mwakiyelu, who are accountants at the AG’s office.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Dr Macdonald Mafuta Mwale, Secretary to treasury said the IFMIS is not weak –saying it is the system that detected the fraud and led to the arrest of the officers.
