Kapichira hydro power has successfully resumed partial power generation after being out of commission for over one year.
The power plant was heavily hit by flash floods following tropical storm ANA which led to the washing away of its intake dam.
However, Moses Gwaza, Senior Public Relations Officer for EGENCO has confirmed to MIJ Online that the company has now resumed generation of 64mw out of its 120mw capacity.
“We have so far two machines running each with a capacity of 32.4MW. We are expecting to add another machine as we continue to build. We are targeting to have 3 out of 4 machines running as we continue to build the cofferdam,” said Gwaza.
He added that this will significantly reduce power blackouts in the country.
