The Higher Education Students’ Loans and Grants Board has cautioned financially capable students against applying for education loans intended for needy learners, saying doing so is illegal.
The warning comes as the Board has opened the 2026/2027 Higher Education Students’ Loan application window.
Speaking to MIJ Online Millie Kasunda, Communications Manager for the Board said all applications will be thoroughly verified through relevant government agencies to ensure that applicants provide accurate information and to prevent fraud.
Kasunda has urged eligible students to submit their applications before 24 June 2025 to avoid missing out on the opportunity.
She further revealed that government has increased the number of targeted loan beneficiaries from 34,863 to 38,000 students for the 2026/2027 academic year.
