Malawi NGOs warned over declining foreign funding

The Non-Governmental Regulatory Authority (NGORA) has urged NGOs in the country to diversify their sources of funding following the withdrawal of some donors from project support.

The call comes as several organisations have suspended project implementation due to donor fatigue.

NBM commits support.

Speaking to MIJ Online Innocentia Ottober, Chairperson of the Non-Governmental Regulatory Authority said there is need for both local and international NGOs to adopt sustainable measures that would safeguard project beneficiaries in the event of donor pullouts.

Ottober made the remarks ahead of the NGO Day, which will provide a platform for organisations to showcase their activities.

Meanwhile, the National Bank of Malawi has donated K5 million towards the NGO Day.

Speaking at the cheque presentation in Lilongwe, Shadrick Malenga, Senior manager at National Bank of Malawi commended Non Government Organisations for promoting economic justice and demanding improved service delivery in the financial sector for Malawians.
