Civil society organizations and other stakeholders have been urged to actively join efforts in ending and following up on cases of sex and human trafficking in the country.
The call has been made as cases of trafficking are still escalating in the country.
Speaking to MIJ online, Lingalireni Mihowa, Women’s Manifesto Movement member stressed the need for stakeholders to act with passion, noting that many anti-trafficking initiatives collapse once donor funding ends.
She further called on authorities to publicize trafficking cases as a deterrent to would-be offered
Caleb Ng’ombo, executive director of the People Serving Girls at Risk (PSGR), says their organization receives more than twenty cases of sex trafficking weekly and has urged government to come up with strategies that will help in ending the problem.
Meanwhile,Tsitsi Matekaire,Equality Now’s Global Lead on Sexual Exploitation , said the organization is supporting Malawi and other countries in enforcing existing anti-trafficking laws.
