Matola calls for Africa collaboration in the energy sector

Energy Minister Ibrahim Matola has urged African Countries to collaborate in coming up with lasting solutions to energy challenges facing the region.

Matola was speaking at the 9th edition of Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference and Exhibition currently underway in Maputo.

During a High-Level Roundtable discussion, Matola recognized Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) for bringing back Kapichira which has improved Malawi’s generation capacity after a year since the station lost its intake dam to flash floods.

The minister has since proposed the need to share skills and ideas among African nations for the implementation of effective energy policies which benefit both national and regional levels.

In his remarks, Mozambique’s Carlos J. Zacarias, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, concurred with Matola, saying the regional integration is a key towards solving energy challenges that the Southern African Region is facing.

The Conference is taking place from April 26-27, 2023 at Joaquim Chissano International Conference Centre in Maputo, Mozambique.
