Government has confirmed that nine Malawians have died in the fire that razed down a five-storey building in Johannesburg last week.
Speaking to MIJ Online John Kabaghe, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said however, they are still expecting the numbers to rise as the search and tracing continues.
Kabaghe, said authorities are falling to identify some of the bodies as they have been burned beyond recognition and they have asked Malawians who are living in South Africa to help in the identification process.
He further said it is a very difficult situation to identify some of the victims as many of them are undocumented migrants.
He has since advised Malawians to follow proper procedures and to avoid using unchartered routes whenever going abroad so that they can be identified easily in time of the accidents and disasters.
