Over hundred people commit suicide in three months

Suicide cases in the country have skyrocketed as Malawi police service says 115 people have killed themselves between January and March this year.

The figure is an adjustment of the rate recorded in the same period last year as 88 lives were lost.

According to Harry Namwaza, Deputy Spokesperson for police, over 97 percent of those that have taken their lives are men.

In an interview with MIJ Online, Namwaza indicated that most of the deaths among the men were triggered by high amount of debts.

He has therefore urged men in the country to be open about their problems as one way of reducing the suicide cases in the country.
