Mangochi district has registered a decline in road accidents by 22 percent in the first half of the year 2023.
According to Amina Tepani Daudi, Spokesperson for Mangochi Police Station, the number of road accidents have reduced from 69 in 2022 to 54 this year.
Meanwhile, Daudi has said there have been a reduction in fatalities with 12 lives lost in 2023 from 24 lives lost last year.
Daudi has attributed the decline to a number of initiatives including, strategic placement of traffic wardens in accident prone areas and collaboration on road safety awareness with the Department of Road Traffic Directorate and Safety Services.
