Taskforce keeping a close eye on Covid19 situation

The Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 says it is heavily monitoring the pandemic’s trends before altering current preventive measures.

The disclosure by Dr Wilfred Chalamira Nkhoma, the Co-chairperson of the taskforce comes as the country continues to register a surge in Covid-19 new infections.

In the past 24 hours, for instance – the country has recorded 115 new cases, which is the highest since October this year.

In an interview with MIJ Online, Nkhoma said the taskforce is continuing to meet and monitor the situation, adding that the country is still operating at level one.

Nkhoma therefore disclosed that more measures will be added when the country will move into advanced levels of the pandemic.

In the past 24 hours, Malawi has registered 235 new COVID-19 cases, 15 new recoveries and two new deaths.

234 of the new cases are locally transmitted; 90 from Lilongwe, 78 from Mzimba North, 34 from Blantyre, eight from Mzimba South, four each from Kasungu and Salima, three from Balaka, two each from Mangochi, Nkhotakota, Phalombe and Zomba, and one each from Chitipa, Dowa, Mulanje, Neno and Nkhata Bay districts.

One of the new cases is imported and is from Lilongwe district.

The new deaths occurred one each from Blantyre and Lilongwe districts, both were not vaccinated.
