Central High International School supports communities in tree planting drive

Sustain Green Initiative has closed its 2022 tree planting season with a donation of 2000 seedlings from Central High International School to Kamwendo village in Bangwe Township.

The donation from Central High International School feeds to a dream of planting one million trees by the year 2024 of Sustain Green Initiative.

Speaking to MIJ Online Sam Msiska, Head of internal exams at Central High International School says as a school they understand the impact of climate change and the need to go green, hence their decision to partner with Sustain Green Initiative.

‘’As a school together with our learners we are well aware of the global campaign of going green as a means of mitigating effects of climate change, that is why we thought it wise to sponsor sustain green initiative with the 2000 seedlings as a starter to a long partnership in the future as they move towards realizing their one million tree dream’’ said Msiska during the handover ceremony.

On his part, Village Head Mpalira hailed Central High International School for the donation saying his community has been hit hard with deforestation.

Despite the donation coming after the rainy season, Village Head Mpalira pledged to take advantage of the nearby river to the mountain in conjunction with the forestry committee in ensuring that they continually watering the trees.

‘’Our community has not been spared from the effects of deforestation that is why these 2000 seedlings will go a long way in addressing this challenge in the near future. We surely understand that the rainy season is gone but as a community we are committed to water the trees so that when the sponsors come back the should see that their good gesture was not in vain.’’ Added Mpalira.
