Marinica names backroom staff, squad ahead of Afcon qualifiers
Malawi national football team coach Marian Mario Marinica has named a 30-man provisional squad of local players that will go into camp on May 8 ahead of the Afcon 2023 qualifiers.
The squad has ten new faces including Nyasa Big Bullets left back Alick Lungu and centre back Haji Wali.
The Romanian has also roped in Kamuzu Barracks left winger Patrick Banda and Ekwendeni Hammers attacking midfielder Chawanangwa Gumbo.
Other new faces are Zeliati Nkhoma (Kamuzu Barracks), Gaddie Chirwa (Blue Eagles) and Mphatso Kamanga (Karonga United).
Meanwhile, the coach has confirmed Patrick Mabedi and Franco Ndawa as his assistants while Lawrence Waya has been assigned the data analyst role on internship basis.
Silver Strikers assistant coach Peter Mgangira and NBB reserve team coach Enos Chatama will be understudying Marinica.
James Sangala has replaced Clement Kafwafwa as Technical Support Manager while Dedza Dynamos goalkeeper trainer Victor Mphande has replaced NBB reserve team goalkeeper trainer Swadick Sanudi as goalkeeper coach.
The Flames will have a two-phase camping session with the first one expected to end on 22 May. 4, 22 The second phase, which will include foreign based players to be announced next week, will start on May 22 al the way through to the match days.
Malawi will host Ethiopia on May 2 before facing Guinea four days later.
