Employers body lobbies for improved pay

A call has gone to government to put in place measured that would address pay disparities in work places for improved livelihood of Malawians.

The call coincides with the commemoration of World Equal Pay day which is celebrated on 18th September every year, to advance efforts towards the achievement of equal pay for work of equal value.

Speaking to MIJ Online, Charles Kumchenga–General Secretary for the Malawi Congress of Trade Union-said most jobs in Malawi do not match their pay as people work extra hours for below-minimum-wage pay.

He has since called on government to take action on requests for the upward adjustment of minimum wage as well as sensitize employers on paying workers’ salaries that equal the value of their work.
