The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace has asked government to move with speed in fulfilling critical campaign promise that are mean to improve the economy and people’s livelihood.
The statement comes after the human rights defenders coalition-HRDC also made a similar call to government, accusing it of being indecisive, promoting nepotism and cronyism as well as failing to loot out fraud and corruption.
In a statement released on Sunday August 8 titled “Tonse government, fading hope amid governance lapses: where is the political promise?”, CCJP says the current administration is walking in the shadows of the past regime where cronyism and nepotism were being cerebrated.
“It is deplorable and disturbing that tendencies of nepotism in public appointments continue to thrive despite detestation from many quarters within the society. This iniquity only worsens social inequalities while debilitating against merit and the equalization of opportunities for inclusive development,” reads part of the statement.
The statement that has been signed by Boniface Chibwana CCJP’s national coordinator further said Tonse Government has lost direction to realize the political promise with which the regime gained public trust and confidence therefore leading to the loss of hope of many Malawians especially the youth.
Meanwhile CCJP has advised the Tonse Government partners to rise above sheer partisan motives and start delivering in pursuit of the common good saying it is an insult for the alliance partners to arguing about who actually ‘won’ the Fresh Presidential election while most Malawians are sinking deeper and deeper into abject poverty and worsening level of unemployment.
