The Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority has issued three operating licenses to Airtel Malawi: an Application Service License, a Network Facility License, and a Network Service License.
During his speech, Daudi Suleman MACRA Director General, highlighted that over the past decade, Airtel has notably enhanced internet penetration and network infrastructure in the country.
Suleman expressed the Authority’s eagerness to collaborate with Airtel in advancing the digital economy.
Bridget Chibwana, a board director of MACRA, emphasized that this event marks a significant milestone in Malawi’s telecommunications industry.
In his acceptance speech, Charles Kamoto, Management Director of Airtel Malawi, emphasized Airtel’s pivotal role in transforming the telecommunications sector in Malawi.
Kamoto highlighted that Airtel has contributed over 59 billion kwacha to the Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority through various fees.
Additionally, the company has invested over 156 billion dollars in infrastructure and 69 billion in corporate taxes.
He also noted that Airtel has expanded coverage to over 80 percent of the population, providing connectivity to 7 million subscribers, with 2 million having access to the internet
