Rice farmers in Karonga will soon start benefitting from the Nthola-Ilola Irrigation scheme as authorities have disclosed the project is set for completion by end of this month (February).
The Project include a rice milling and processing factory with a capacity to mill 50 tons per day.
Speaking during a media engagement in Karonga, Dr. Chisomo Kumbuyo, Director of Irrigation Operations for Greenbelt Authority said the authority aspire to revamp irrigation works which is key for the country’s potential to achieve food security and economic growth.
According to the authority, work for the rice processing plant is currently at 98 percent while progress for the water intake is at 60 percent.
Meanwhile Kumbuyo has underscored the important role that media play in facilitating effective implementation of developmental projects by sensitizing the masses for improved adoption of the same.
